6.5 Month Old Baby Often Vomits When He Coughs Cold?
at night, my baby is 6.5 months old. In the past 5 days my baby has vomited about 5 times, vomiting in large quantities.rn3 hours this has vomited 2 times. My baby has a cold since this morning at 07.00. With clear liquid coming out. I’ve given “pure kids”. And just starting tonight there is a cough. What do you think is the cause of vomiting? How to handle it? Thank you
Hello Mrs Elida,
In adults, coughing and sneezing are useful for clearing the respiratory tract of germs, irritants and mucus. In infants, the cough and sneeze reflex is not yet good, so the accumulated mucus cannot be expelled properly and eventually stimulates vomiting. This gag reflex can also occur when the baby is lying down, because mucus from the nose flows into the throat and causes the gag reflex.
Frequent coughs and colds in babies is usually a natural thing because the immune system is not yet perfect. Babies can get colds up to 8 times per year. Usually the symptoms are mucus from the nose, cough, and fever. It could also be that the child has no appetite. Usually no special treatment is needed and will go away on its own within a few days to a week.
To prevent vomiting in your child, you can try:
Performing the suction of mucus in the nose with a special baby mucus suction device
Give milk or solid food slowly, not a lot at once. After eating, you should not lie down immediately or do a lot of activities.
Give a higher pillow while sleeping
Attempt to expel mucus by steaming warm water, but this requires special skills and if it is too hot it can hurt the baby.
You need to take your baby to the doctor if your baby's cold is accompanied by:
Fever over 39 degrees Celsius (measure with a thermometer)
Baby's nose is blocked making it difficult to breastfeed
Your baby is limp, inactive
Vomiting continuously to difficulty eating and drinking
Not getting better in one week
I hope it's useful, Mrs.
