A 4-year-old Toddler Coughs Up Phlegm And Has Blood Spots
Morning doc, I want to ask, 2 days my child has a high fever accompanied by coughing. who was previously healthy and fit, suddenly his body immediately became hot after drinking 1 glass of the same as my husband. My husband coughed dry for 2 weeks before healed. My child is hot at night, but during the day the heat subsides even looks quite better. However, at night his body heat again and sweat.
Thank you for the question.
High fever, coughing and excessive sweating often indicate an infection of the respiratory tract, for example due to viruses (including Corona virus that causes COVID-19 disease), bacteria, or other microorganisms. In addition, infections of other organ systems, allergies, gastric acid reflux, immune disorders, asthma, bronchitis, aspiration of foreign bodies into the airways, and so on can also aggravate this complaint. If it is true that your child has just had a complaint after indirect contact with his father, that is when using shared eating utensils, then it is likely that the condition that your husband experienced was the same cause.
You do not need to panic excessively if this fever only occurs 1-3 days. Often, with endurance and good handling, this condition can be overcome without leaving dangerous complications. The several steps that need to be done are:
Give your child plenty to drink, especially warm water
Also give him food that is warm and easy to swallow, not spicy, not greasy or artificial sweetening excessively, for example porridge, rice broth, ginger soup
Encourage children not to shout excessively during coughing
Give him paracetamol so that the fever is reduced
Also wear clothes that absorb sweat
Keep the environment around you clean, away from dust, dry air, cold, smoke, and allergens and other airway irritants
Ask your husband to isolate himself first until the cough is healed. If he wants to contact with other people, ask him to wear a mask. Not to forget, he urged him to improve his personal hygiene and maintain his body's endurance well so that his illness would recover quickly.
Furthermore, if the fever persists for more than 3 days, if there is shortness and severe vomiting, or if your child / your husband / other people living with you have had contact with a sufferer / suspect of COVID-19, it is better to check yourself directly to the doctor so that it is handled properly. If necessary, your child may later be referred to a pediatrician for further treatment.
Hope this helps ...
