A Black Birthmark On The Right Cheek?
Hello .. I want to ask .. my child has a birthmark resembling a mole but rather large on the right cheek can it be removed? if what can be removed?
Hello Viya, Thank you for the question.
Moles are formed from a collection of skin-producing cells / skin pigments called melanocytes. Moles can appear on the skin of the body with varying colors and shapes in each person. Moles are harmless conditions and do not require certain medical treatment. However, if this mole is large enough and is located in parts of the body that are easily visible for example on the face, then this mole can interfere with appearance and affect one's confidence. If the appearance of this mole is very disturbing, you can bring your child to consult with a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon further because to overcome this condition proper medical treatment is needed. Treatment that can be recommended by a doctor can be in the form of a laser, the use of cautery, or minor surgical procedures depending on the size of the mole that is bothering it.
To prevent these moles from developing into malignant moles, make sure your child is not exposed to direct sunlight, for example by wearing hats or clothing with long sleeves or long pants or standing in the shade when outdoors. Using sunscreen when outside the room can also help prevent the adverse effects of ultraviolet light exposure.
Hopefully this information helps.
