Amitriptyline Replacement Medication?
I am a woman aged 43, around February 2019 after conducting an examination, it turned out that I had an anxiety disorder, I was prescribed amitriptyline, but when I returned the drug consulant was finished at PKM and to make up for it at the outside pharmacy was also absent. The question was whether there was a substitute drug for amitriptyline ? I have consumed the drug for 4 months. Thank you
Good morning, thanks for asking at HealthReplies.com. We understand your confusion. Amitriptyline is an antidepressant that is useful for treating depression and a number of other mental complaints, including alleviating anxiety. Apart from mental complaints, this drug can also be given to those who experience eating disorders, pain due to viral infections and headaches.
Regarding your question, there are a number of amitriptyline substitutes and we can actually mention them all. The problem is that these drugs are hard drugs and prescription drugs, so even if you know the medicine, you still can't get it because the prescription in your hand is for amitriptyline. Especially for mental complaints drugs, pharmacies should not want to give it away for fear of abuse.
So we suggest, the best step you can take is to go back to the doctor who prescribed the drug and submit your complaint. Let your doctor change the prescription or suggest a specific place where you can buy the medicine after adjusting to your condition. What is clear, do not take your own medication or use other drugs without a doctor's prescription because it can harm you. If for one reason or another you cannot see your previous doctor, you can consult another psychiatrist. So, hopefully answering your question.
