Are Babies With LBW Always Born Prematurely?
Is the baby with LBW always born prematurely?
1 Answer:
Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
LBW or low birth weight is a different condition from prematurity. Premature is a condition where the baby is born before 37 weeks' gestation. Meanwhile LBW is a condition where babies are born weighing less than 2500 grams. Not all LBW babies are born prematurely (meaning full term babies can also experience LBW), and not all premature babies have LBW (sometimes premature babies with macrosomia can weigh more than 2500 grams).
There are various causes of LBW because the baby is born prematurely, the mother's nutritional intake is lacking during pregnancy, mothers who smoke, drink alcohol, use illegal drugs, other diseases in the mother such as hypertension in pregnancy (including preeclampsia), infections, drug consumption certain medications, or can also be caused by genetic abnormalities or birth defects in babies.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
