Are Erlamycetin Eye Drops Safe For Pregnant Women?
good night, I’m poppy I’m 22 years old I’m pregnant I’m 3 months pregnant. It’s been 2 days that my left eye is itchy I asked the midwife for eye drops that are safe for pregnant women and she suggested using erlamycetin eye drops and I just used them once without realizing it after I read the paper listed with the eye drops there, she was warned that pregnant women should do not use this brand of eye drops. and I now don’t wear it anymore for fear that something I don’t want will happen to my fetus. nmy question yesterday I used it will something happen to my womb? nAnd if the drug is not safe, then what eye drops are safe for pregnant women, especially the fetus? nThank you, please answer.
erlamycetin is one of the trademarks of an antibiotic called chloramphenicol and one of the most popular dosage forms is as a topical antibiotic for the eyes. Chloramphenicol is present as an ointment or eye drop which is useful for treating bacterial infections of the eye. In pregnancy, there is no absolute answer whether or not this drug can be used as eye drops. The use of this drug always weighs the risks and benefits. If the infection is so severe in the eye, of course the risk of the drug in an unreliable pregnancy can be excluded. There is no strong evidence that the use of this drug can cause pregnancy defects. The formation of organs in the fetus takes place during the first 3 months of pregnancy and defects occur only when using drugs that are clearly harmful, within the first 3 months of pregnancy. We highly recommend that you get your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist, if you have any doubts about using the drug. Here we attach an external article regarding the use of chloramphenicol in pregnancy. May be useful.
