Are Mangoes, Sweet Corn And Lime Juice Good For GERD Sufferers?
Good morning doctor … I want to ask, are mangoes, sweet corn and lime juice (plus sugar) good for sufferers of gerd? I have been browsing the internet, for sweet corn I got 2 different answers, some say corn is not good for the stomach some say that corn is good for consumption of gerd sufferers, well I’m confused which one is right. For the orange juice alone, my neighbor suggested to drink the juice of orange juice plus water and sugar and it turns out there really are no symptoms of gerd after drinking orange juice even though it is very clear that the citrus fruit is not recommended for sufferers of gerd because of its high acidity. doctor, and I beg for the answer no need to include understanding / symptoms / causes of ger d myself because I have read a lot of doctor’s comments about gerd’s disease. Thank you doctor, good morning.
Hello, thank you for asking at HealthReplies.com.
There is no scientific evidence of the 3 types of fruits that you have mentioned to treat or prevent GERD. However, as you said, you should not use acidic fruit to treat GERD. This is because these types of food have been proven to irritate the surface of the gastric mucosa so that it will produce more stomach acid. It also will cause the sphincter between the lower esophagus and stomach to relax so that it opens. Increased stomach acid production coupled with an open sphincter will actually cause stomach acid to rise into the esophagus, resulting in GERD.
You can do a few tips and eat natural foods that can overcome and prevent GERD here.
Thus hopefully useful.
