Hi, I’m 22 years old and not married yet. but my menstrual cycle is usually always backward. but lately the retreat is too far. before I menstruate in June and then menstruate again in mid-August. and from August until now we haven’t had my period anymore. I checked with the obstetrician and he said that my blood was too thick so his menstruation was not smooth and he diagnosed PCOS because my blood was too thick but I was not sure about his statement. and he also gave me 500mg of metformin drugs as well as cyclo progynova drugs. Is the drug safe and able to launch menstruation?

1 Answer:

Hello Monita,

Menstrual cycles are normally around 21-35 days. Irregular menstrual cycles can be caused by many factors such as stress, fatigue, drastic weight changes, hormonal disorders, breastfeeding, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome / PCOS, thyroid disorders, and diabetes.

PCOS is one of the causes of menstrual cycle disorders. In PCOS, there are small cysts in the ovaries. Women with PCOS also have higher androgen hormone levels. Symptoms of PCOS include menstrual cycle disorders, hair growth on the face and body, acne, hair loss, skin folds can be darker.

PCOS is confirmed by ultrasound examination, blood test, history taking, and physical examination. Handling of PCOS will be adjusted to the condition of the patient, namely with changes in a healthier lifestyle, drugs, and medical treatment if necessary.

Metformin is one of the drugs used in the case of PCOS. Its function is to normalize the menstrual cycle and help ovulation / release of eggs. While cyclo proginova is a hormonal drug that contains estradiol and norgestrel. This medicine can help overcome menstrual cycle disorders, including irregular periods like you experience.

I suggest that you take both drugs in accordance with the advice of the obstetrician who examined you. If the drug has run out you should exercise control back to the obstetrician, or you can adjust to the control schedule recommended by the doctor who examined you.

In addition to medication, to help with menstruation you can also do the following tips:

Get enough rest
Regular exercise
Eat healthier foods
Manage stress well
Drink enough water

Hope it helps you,

Thank you
