Are SARS And MERS Caused By The Same Virus?
Thank you for the question.
There are many microorganisms that can infect the respiratory tract, such as viruses, bacteria, and so on. Especially for viruses, the types can also vary, one of which is the corona virus (Coronavirus). Furthermore, the corona virus is divided into several types, including those that cause COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019), SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), and MERS CoV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus).
So, when asked whether the virus that causes each of these viruses is the same? The answer can be yes or no. Said to be the same, because they both came from the corona virus group (Coronavirus). However, the type of corona virus for each of these diseases is different. Specifically for COVID-19 which is currently endemic, the cause is SARS CoV-2, or often referred to as a new corona virus (Coronavirus novel).
Because of this different type of virus, most people do not have immunity to this virus, and eventually fall ill if their immune system is not good.
Hope this helps ...
