Babies Aged 15 Days Still Look Yellow?
I want to ask, How come my child still looks yellow, even though he is 15 days old? yellow started at the age of 4 days. I gave birth at 37-38w gestational age … is it still normal to yellow? How to deal with it how to? Breastfeed strongly if early birth was not so strong but now it’s strong, the color of the stool is also bright yellow not pale. Thank you doctor
Yellow in babies is natural. The yellow color is caused by the presence of bilirubin in the blood. Bilirubin is produced from the process of red blood cell reshuffle. When a baby is born, there is a replacement of fetal red blood cells with baby red blood cells. The old red blood cells are destroyed and then bilirubin is formed. Yellow in normal babies, usually occurs a few days after birth. If yellow occurs before 24 hours or after 2 weeks, it is feared that the yellow is not normal.
Yellow usually can disappear by itself in 2-3 weeks. Your action is appropriate, namely by giving ASI. Give ASI about 8-12 times every day. Pay attention to whether the baby is active, is there yellow in the eyes, what is the color of urine and feces. Dry baby in the morning. If your baby becomes inactive, it is difficult to suckle, urine and faeces are not normal, you should take your baby to a pediatrician. Your doctor may need to do a blood sample analysis to assess bilirubin levels. If the value is too high, then your baby may need blue light therapy.
Hopefully this explanation can be of little help. Regards.
