Babies Drink Water And Start Eating Under 6 Months?
What age can a baby drink water, and allow age 5 months for a baby to be fed?
Hi Nurjannah .. Thank you for the question.
Before the child is 6 months try to give the mother exclusive breastfeeding. This means that children only receive breast milk, without being given food or other drinks, including water. Until the age of 6 months a child's nutrition can be fulfilled from breast milk and children also need antibodies that come from breast milk. If the child is given water through a pacifier before the age of 6 months, it can reduce the frequency the child wants to suckle from the mother, besides that if the water is not sterile, it can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea in children.
Consumption of solids / complementary foods should also be given after the child is 6 months old, at the age of less than 6 months, the baby is more prone to allergies. If you produce enough milk and meet the needs of children, try to keep only giving breast milk to children until the age of 6 months and ready to receive MPASI.
If your milk production is small, while the child's desire to drink is large enough, you should consult with your pediatrician first about your condition. So that doctors can provide education and assess the nutritional status of children.
