Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Basically spit up is a fairly normal thing that happens to babies (especially in young babies). This spit can continue until the baby can sit well (around the age of 6 months). Spit can indeed come out of the mouth, but not infrequently it can also come out of the nose, especially if the baby spit up in a lying down position and the amount of spit up is large. This is generally not harmful to the baby although it can feel uncomfortable for the baby's nose and can even cause the breath sounds.
The following are some things you can do to help reduce spit up in babies:
Feed the baby in a higher head position so that the gas in the stomach more easily removed when buried later
Burp the baby more often, once when the baby has finished breastfeeding from 1 breast, and once again when the baby has finished breastfeeding from 2 breasts. If the baby gets milk from the bottle, burp the baby while the baby drinks half the bottle, then burp again after finishing drinking milk.
If you are giving a bottle of milk to the baby, make sure you do not give excessive amounts of milk to the baby (if suckling through the breast directly, usually the baby will be able to stop itself when it is full)
Carry the baby in an upright position about 15-20 minutes after you finish breastfeeding, after which you just put the baby to sleep
As long as the baby's weight goes up normally, spit up on the baby can still be said to be normal. You can observe your baby's weight gain again (you can weigh in a puskesmas or posyandu during a routine baby check), if the baby's weight does not rise well, you can take your baby to the pediatrician for further evaluation.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
