Baby 4 Months Old Does Not Gain Weight?
Hello. I want to ask ,, my niece is 4 months old. BBL was 3,4 but 2 weeks after birth her body weight dropped to 3.2 .. Entering 4 months her body weight was only 4.7..examining the pediatrician the doctor said my niece had a syndrome that inhibits growth and development plus a leaky heart .. Guess “what is the solution?
Hello Indack, Thank you for the question.
The normal body weight of infants aged 4 months ranges from 5.6-8.6 kg for male babies and between 5.1-8.1 kg for female babies. Baby weight gain can be influenced by various factors such as heredity, growth hormone, the amount of food and the quality of food consumed, and health conditions. A baby who does not gain weight can be caused by:
lack of nutritional intake, for example due to improper breastfeeding position (poor attachment) acid reflux impaired absorption of nutrients for example due to cow's milk allergy, lactose intolerance, Celiac disease certain medical conditions such as thyroid hormone disorders, chronic infections (eg tuberculosis), heart disease congenital, growth hormone disorders, anemia. To find the cause, the doctor needs to know the patient's health condition, examine the patient, and perform other tests such as blood tests. If indeed this condition is caused by a congenital heart disease (leaky heart), please advise your brother / sister to consult further with a pediatrician / pediatric cardiologist for further treatment. Treatment for problems with the patient's weight depends on the cause. In the meantime, please advise the mother of your nephew to continue breastfeeding your nephew while paying attention to other symptoms and other developments that your nephew is experiencing.
Hope this information is helpful.
