Bee Sting Scars Are Swollen And Festering?
Good afternoon,. My mother a week ago was stung by a bee on the front near the armpit. At first it was just swelling, but over time the swelling got bigger and oozed pus mixed with blood. I went to the doctor and was given antibiotics. But it hasn’t gotten better, until now it’s still festering. For information, my mother always wears long clothes to the office. Is this also one of the causes of the swelling not getting better? Thank you.
Hi Aida, thanks for the question for HealthReplies.com
A bee sting wound that is still swollen and festering after a week indicates that the infection is still deep inside your mother's skin. Causes of infection that have not been resolved can vary, including:
Infecting bacteria are not sensitive to the antibiotics given
antibiotics are not taken according to the rules
Wound hygiene is not well maintained
there are other comorbid conditions that cause wounds to heal, such as diabetes
In cases like your mother's, it's best if your mother returns to see a doctor. If the wound that appears becomes an abscess (becomes a lump that contains a pocket of pus), then to overcome it will require special measures such as cleaning the abscess bag (skin is split a little and the pus is removed). If the infection extends to deeper skin tissue, stronger antibiotics or intravenous antibiotics may be required. If there are comorbid conditions such as diabetes, then diabetes needs to be treated first.
Right now all your mother can do is keep the wound clean. Change the bandage more often if it gets wet with water or pus. Make sure to wash your hands with soap before cleaning the wound.
That's all the information from me, hopefully it's enough to answer
