Bitten By A Dog That Has Been Vaccinated Against Rabies?
at night doctor.. just now I was bitten by a neighbor’s dog. According to the owner, every year the dog is injected with rabies, this year it has also been injected. If so, is it safe?
Hi Martina. In general, if the dog that bit you has been vaccinated against rabies, it can be said that you are safe from rabies infection. However, there is nothing wrong if you do a rabies vaccination, especially if you are at high risk such as living in an environment that has a lot of stray dogs, living in an area that does have a high rate of rabies.
In your own condition, wound care is important such as assessing whether the wound is dirty or not, the location of the wound where if it attacks the fingers, hands, neck, face is a high risk area so good wound care and vaccinations can help to ensure you are protected from infection and your wound can heal optimally.
Consult your doctor for more information. Here's about rabies. Hopefully helpful, and thank you. Regards, Dr Alyssa
