Bloody Mucus Discharge At 35 Weeks Pregnant?
It has been coming out of clear brownish mucus mixed with blood for 2 days, but no contractions/heartburn. Midwives only give content-boosting drugs. Is it safe to still have sex?
Thank you for asking HealthReplies.com.
The discharge of mucus mixed with blood in a pregnancy that has reached 35 weeks is not always a sign of labor. If you do not feel the slightest contraction, then this condition can be caused by the following factors:
Placenta previa (the placenta is located at the bottom, can approach or even stick to the birth canal)
Placental abruption (separation of the placenta from its attachment)
Irritation of intimate organs, for example due to sexual intercourse
Cervicitis (inflammation of the cervix)
Vulvovaginitis (inflammation of the lips of the vagina), and so on
Given your gestational age has not reached 36 weeks, then sexual intercourse that involves penetration into the vagina you should limit. This is because, sexual intercourse is at risk of causing recurrent bleeding, especially if the cause of your previous complaint is related to placental abnormalities. This repeated bleeding can certainly endanger the safety of the fetus in your womb.
In addition to limiting sexual relations, you are also strongly advised to increase rest. Always keep your intimate organs clean to minimize the risk of infection. Don't forget, drink plenty of water, eat a balanced nutritious diet, stay away from cigarettes, and calm your mind from excessive stress or anxiety.
If there are repeated complaints, or other signs of labor appear, such as a tight stomach radiating to the lower back and amniotic fluid coming out, you should immediately consult an obstetrician for further treatment.
I hope this helps.
