My brother just underwent knee surgery, because he had osteoarthritis … but he had bluish bruises along his legs and was expanding, what was the cause? Thank you for your answer.

1 Answer:

Hello, good night Pauline

Bluish bruises on the knees and lower limbs after surgery on the knee area are common. This happens because during surgery, doctors often place a tool (tourniquet) on the upper thigh to minimize blood loss during the procedure, as well as heavy equipment to keep the foot in the action and not change position. This is normal and will disappear by itself in a few weeks. To reduce inflammation and bruising on the feet, your brother can try to raise his legs when lying down (by propping up his feet using a pillow) with a height slightly higher than the heart. If this complaint does not improve or really makes your brother worry, do not hesitate to consult with a doctor who treats before.

That's all, hopefully it helps :)
