Can A Positive Alter Ego Be Maintained?
I have an acquaintance … he is an alter ego, his alter ego who tells me he has these qualities. But still in the original personal conscious state. Most alter ego is bad. But he is different, his alter ego is a positive but personal person who doesn’t care about other people, is a loner, antisocial. Then, how to cure it? Because I was worried … I was afraid that his alter ego would disappear and he would become a person who didn’t care forever. thank you
Hello Binta, thank you for the question on HealthReplies.com
Alter ego is a different personality or attitude that is owned in a person. This personality is created and is also consciously controlled by that person, and this personality is created as one of the self defense mechanisms for fulfilling things that are not able to be fulfilled such as the desired trait of possessing, the life to be possessed, increasing self-confidence, and etc.
Basically, alter ego is not always bad and sometimes it can provide positive things that benefit people who have it because it helps them get things that would be impossible to achieve without that personality. Also keep in mind that this personality can be consciously controlled by the person who has it, so in general if this personality disappears, it is based on his own desires and not suddenly disappear. Likewise with a person's original personality, it is an absolute thing and cannot be eliminated, so that if someone with an alter ego decides to return to his true nature (because maybe the things he wants have been achieved), then generally there is no treatment whatsoever that can change that.
However, to better ascertain whether your acquaintance does indeed have an alter ego or have other conditions, you should invite your acquaintance to a psychiatrist to re-evaluate his condition, as well as the therapies that may be needed to overcome the underlying problems that create the alter ego.
I hope this helps.
