Can Asthma Sufferers Get Excessive Physical Exercise?
. Want to ask, such as asthma sufferers are forced to continue to do physical exercise (eg running), the danger is not? Especially if you relapse amid trsbt activity.
Hello Indah, Thank you for the question.
Asthma is a long-term respiratory disease caused by inflammation that causes narrowing of the respiratory tract. This narrowing of the respiratory tract causes the sufferer to experience shortness of breath. In addition to narrowing of the respiratory tract, mucus production also increases which further worsens the symptoms of the sufferer. Sufferers also experience complaints of coughing, chest pain, and wheezing. The cause of asthma is not yet known with certainty but asthma is related to the following triggers: dust, cold air, animal dander, pollen, cigarette smoke, viral infections, exposure to chemicals, and physical activity. If the patient experiences symptoms when exercising, then the patient should immediately stop the physical activity. If the patient continues to force himself, narrowing of the respiratory tract makes oxygen difficult to enter the lungs and cause respiratory distress / failure. Patients who experience respiratory failure that can be life threatening.
If this complaint is triggered by physical activity, patients are usually advised to use an inhaler before physical activity. Please advise the patient to consult with a lung specialist further so that the patient's symptoms can be controlled. Patients are also recommended to avoid other triggers to prevent recurrence of symptoms.
Hopefully this information is useful.
