Can I Take TB Medicine 2.5 Hours After Eating?
I was given TB medicine that must be taken routinely at 10 pm, and I usually consume dinner at 7:30 or half past 8 at night … Will this be a problem for my treatment … The thing is I’ve been doing this for almost 2 weeks. After half past 8 at night I did not eat anything else besides drinking water … And after taking TB medicine I slept at night. Please advise, how good.
Thank you for the question.
The proper consumption of OAT (anti-tuberculosis drug) is one of the keys to successful tuberculosis treatment. Indeed, consumption of OAT may be done before and after eating. However, to optimize the absorption of drugs, it is advisable to consume OAT in an empty stomach. This can be done by:
Take the medicine before eating, often in the morning before breakfast
Take the medicine 2 to 3 hours after eating, often at night before going to bed
With the consumption of OAT when the stomach is empty, your risk of experiencing nausea and vomiting due to side effects of OAT can be minimized.
Regarding your condition, the consumption of OAT more than 2 hours after dinner before going to bed is okay. Most importantly, so that your TB can be cured, regularly take this OAT every day at the same hour, and do regular control of your TB status to your doctor or internist.
I hope this helps.
