Can Obese Pregnant Women Cause Premature Babies?
Hello !! What does it mean to overweight in pregnant women can result in babies born prematurely?
Thank you for the question.
Determination of ideal body weight can be done by monitoring BMI (body mass index). Ideally, Indonesians have a BMI score ranging from 18.5 to 22.9. This BMI score is obtained by weighting the body weight (in kg units) with the square of height (in m units). What is your exact BMI?
Pregnant women with excess weight are at risk of experiencing problems, both during pregnancy, childbirth, and post-copy. The risks in question include:
Risks to the fetus: prone to miscarriage, born prematurely, fetal death in the womb, fetal defects, large babies (macrosomia), are also obese and metabolic syndrome when they are older
Risks to mothers: gestational diabetes prone, preeclampsia, heart problems, sleep apnea, difficulty giving birth normally, possibility of cesarean delivery, cesarean infections, and so on
Indeed, there is no direct relationship between maternal overweight during pregnancy and premature birth to the fetus. However, given that overweight mothers during pregnancy are more at risk of experiencing various diseases as mentioned above, for example preeclampsia and heart problems, so for the safety of the mother and fetus in the womb, it is not uncommon for the fetus to be born sooner. Because of this premature birth, infants of overweight mothers are more at risk of experiencing a variety of post-saline complications, such as growth and development obstacles, respiratory problems, high risk of sudden death (SIDS, sudden infant death syndrome), and so on.
So, if you have problems with being overweight, and you are planning a pregnancy or are actually pregnant, you should regularly control your pregnancy to the obstetrician, so that you are given proper treatment, so that you and the fetus in your womb are always safe.
Hope this helps ...
