Can Shingles That Rupture Near The Genital Area Turn Into Herpes Simplex?
, I have contracted herpes zoster since I was 12 years old, and now I’m 17 years old. And herpes has been relapsed a number of times when it is down, but it’s very rare. Some relapses today, in the buttocks towards the groin. What I’m afraid of if it’s broken then the water down to the genital area. Will it turn into herpes simplex? Thanks
Hello, Ms. Nerpamahesi. Thank you for the question submitted to HealthReplies.com. We can understand the concern you feel.
Shingles is a disease caused by infection with the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) in the skin and mucosa or is the result of reactivation of the virus after the first infection. Symptoms usually begin with complaints of fever, headache, body weakness, aches in muscles and bones, then appearing resilient groups with a reddish basis accompanied by pain on one side of the body. The spread of the rash follows the pattern of innervation of the skin.
Meanwhile, herpes simplex is a disease caused by infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV) type I or II. HSV type I is not transmitted sexually, and its location is usually in the area of the body above the waist, especially the nose and mouth. Meanwhile, HSV type II is sexually transmitted, with the most frequent location being in the body area below the waist, especially the genital area. However, this location is sometimes indistinguishable due to oral intercourse. Symptoms that arise are preceded by fever, body weakness, decreased appetite, enlarged lymph nodes, and then appear a skin rash in the form of resilient lumps on a reddish basis that can rupture and become injured.
So, shingles and shingles are two different diseases and are caused by different viruses. Shingles is not caused by shingles. Nevertheless, it does not rule out the possibility that both can occur in the same individual if indeed an infection occurs by each of the causative viruses.
