Can Someone Who Has Been Vaccinated Be Infected By Other Dogs (playmates)?
I have a 7 month old dog and it’s been vaccinated. yesterday my house had a stray puppy, because I was sorry I just picked it up. then the stray puppy plays with the dog that has been vaccinated. is it possible to have rabies? although I don’t know whether the wild puppy is infected or not, what is clear is that the puppy looks healthy. thank you
Hello, thank you for the question for HealthReplies.com
Rabies infection from dog to dog can occur through the bite or scratch wound of a dog infected with rabies. If your dog is just playing with the stray dog and there is no bite wound or scratch wound from the stray dog, then your dog will not get rabies.
Dogs that have been vaccinated will have protection so that they will not be easily infected with rabies. However, if your dog is bitten or scratched by a stray dog, your dog will need a rabies booster vaccine and should be closely monitored for 45 days.
We recommend that you take your dog to the vet if you suspect your dog was bitten or scratched by the stray dog. You should also ask this directly to your veterinarian. HealthReplies.com is a medium for human health consultation and doctors in this medium are doctors who study human health.
