Can Women With PCOS Not Have Intercourse?
Good morning. I want to ask if every woman affected by PCOS cannot have sexual relations, thank you
Good morning Risna, thank you for asking at HealthReplies.com.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition of abnormalities in the ovaries (ovaries) where there are many cysts that grow in the ovary and the condition can cause disturbances in ovarian function.
This disease is generally characterized by several symptoms such as:
Irregular menstruation or no menstruation at all
Infertility is due to the absence of eggs produced by the ovaries
Excessive body hair growth (hirsutism) for example on the face, chest, buttocks, or back
The skin becomes oily or blotchy
Thinning hair and loss of head hair
A woman who has the above symptoms, still needs further examination from an obstetrician to determine whether the condition meets the criteria for PCOS disease or not because there are several other diseases that can cause complaints that are almost similar to PCOS.
Although a woman who is stated to have PCOS is generally infertile, there has never been a study that states that women with this condition should not have sexual relations. Sexual intercourse will not cause any side effects to this condition. However, please note that the possibility for post-sexual pregnancy is quite low.
Even so, there are now several therapeutic options to help women with this condition to achieve the possibility of pregnancy. Like surgery or hormone therapy. In addition it also needs to be accompanied by lifestyle changes such as weight loss and avoiding smoking to support these therapies.
I hope this helps.
