Can Working In An AC Room Cause TB Recurrence?
Hello. I want to ask. I am a former sufferer of pulmonary tuberculosis, October last year was declared cured and the day after tomorrow I was offered to work in the air conditioned room for 10 hours every day. Will if I work in an AC room every day will my TB recur? thanks.
Hello Mifta, thank you for asking.
TB is a chronic respiratory infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacterium spreads airborne (moving from person to another through air media). When someone with TB talks, coughs, sneezes, sings, screams, it can all cause respiratory tract droplets containing TB bacteria to be ejected into the surrounding air. If the droplet is inhaled by another person, it is possible that TB infection may occur.
Actually the room is refrigerated or not, it does not really affect the spread of TB. As long as there is no person with TB, there will be no TB transmission. Conversely, in a room without refrigeration, if there are people with TB, transmission of TB infection may occur. Thus, infections can occur anywhere, without or with air conditioning.
That's why the best thing to do is when you cough, sneeze, runny nose, cover your mouth with an arm, tissue, cloth, or the inside of your forearm. Another thing you need to remember is, TB infection generally occurs in people who are in close contact. You don't need to worry too much, the most important thing is to adopt a healthy and clean lifestyle and diet. It is hoped that your body's immunity is strong enough, so that when exposed to TB bacteria, infection does not necessarily occur.
