Causes And Treatment Of Congenital Heart Disease?
good afternoon, why do chromosomal disorders such as Down syndrome and hami mothers in their 40s cause their children to be born with congenital heart disease, patent ductus arteriosus?
Good evening, thanks for the question
Down syndrome is a collection of symptoms due to genetic conditions in the form of the 21st chromosome trisomy. Genetic abnormalities since the beginning of fetal growth in the womb will result in errors in the formation of various systems in the body. As a result, various clinical manifestations will be found and can be seen in many systems in the body.
The most significant include intellectual impairment, short stature, congenital heart disease, gastrointestinal disorders, or muscle and bone disorders. The presence of congenital heart disease, including conditions that make the condition of patients with Down syndrome can quickly worsen. One form of congenital heart disease that can arise is patent ductus arteriosus. About 40-60% of individuals with Down syndrome have congenital heart defects.
Associated with a gestational age above 40 years is medically known to significantly increase the risk of a fetus experiencing trisomy of chromosome 21 because of the quality of cells and genetic components in it or the process of cell division which is no longer good because of the aging process. At the age above 40 years the incidence of Down syndrome increases sharply with the incidence of 1 in 30 births, while the age of pregnant women under 30 years the ratio is only 1 in 1000 births.
That's all, hope you can help.
