Causes And Ways Of Dealing With Increased CRP In Newborns?
I want to ask, my BBL was born on the 17th and checked in the nursery, breathing rather quickly. Then referred to the trigger room. With a diagnosis of crp 6 levels with the help of oxygen still above 10. Then we are advised for treatment and observation. But on the 20th with the lab results we received that my BBL crp level rose to 20 (other tests were normal such as bilirubi, leukocytes etc.) but the oxygen level had been reduced to 5 and had begun to increase breast milk consumption. Our question is, may we take it home for outpatient treatment with antibiotics from the doctor who will later be given to us? This involves a fairly high cost. Please advise can be given
Hello Mr. Niko, thank you for consulting us on HealthReplies.com.
Basically CRP or C-reactive protein is a substance produced by the liver in response to an inflammatory process in the body. If the CRP value is high, it means that there is inflammation that is very likely to spread which can be caused by a bacterial infection. CRP is done to ensure the presence or absence of inflammatory processes that occur, in fact in newborns CRP is done not routinely in newborns, and is only needed if the doctor suspects a bacterial infection that may be caused due to conditions such as:
premature rupture of membranes
inflammation of the membranes or turbid water
infection experienced by the mother during pregnancy
other infections experienced by babies
If seen from clinical or physical conditions, there is already progress in your baby, it's just that in a laboratory, CRP values increase increasingly shows the presence of inflammation that is likely to expand due to an infection that is increasingly masiv or increasing. Of course this requires intensive care and supervision from doctors and medical personnel so it would be better if the treatment was continued and carried out as the doctor suggested. However, if this conflicts with costs, then you can consult with a doctor regarding this matter, so that the doctor can understand and help to provide the best decision for all parties, including for your baby.
Thus we can convey, hopefully the information from us can help. thanks.
