Causes Loose Stools And Pungent Odors?
Hello morning, doc. I have a 4 month old child who has been drinking formula milk for two days. The stool is runny and has a pungent odor, is it due to formula milk?
How many bowel movements in a day? If the stools are more than 3x a day / diarrhea accompanied by a pungent odor, the following conditions should be considered:
Milk allergy or food allergy
Formula milk that is not processed properly
Infections of the digestive system
Take certain antibiotics
Did you just give formula milk or just changed the formula milk? Actually the best food for babies 0-6 months is ASI, if for some reason ASI cannot be given, formula milk can be a substitute, but it should be consulted first with a pediatrician, especially if the baby later experiences diarrhea or even constipation.
However, not all diarrhea in infants is caused by formula milk. To ensure the cause of diarrhea in your baby requires a direct examination by a doctor. Therefore, I suggest that you see your child directly to the doctor so that his condition can be known and so that your baby can be given more appropriate treatment. Handling of diarrhea in infants generally with replacement of fluids, zinc, probiotics, antibiotics are only given when needed.
While waiting to see a doctor, you can do the following tips:
Meet your baby's fluid needs
Try changing the formula milk, if possible give first milk
Wash your hands before preparing baby milk
Make sure the baby's drinking utensils are sterile
Watch for signs of dehydration: dry mouth, crying without tears, not urinating, cold hands, sunken eyes, restless or fussy, weak and sleepy, which is difficult to wake up
If a sign of dehydration appears, immediately take it to the nearest emergency room so that it can be treated immediately
Hope it helps you,
