Hello Lala Anggraeni,
AV (arteriovenous) hemodialysis shunt is the access of blood vessels used to pierce needles when doing hemodialysis. AV shunt is made so that blood vessels are able to withstand repeated stabbings and also have strong blood flow. Venous vessels are connected by arteries to get strong pressure, so that turbulence, stasis and minimizing injury to the endothelial vessels are expected.
Complications that often occur from AV shunt are:
Thrombosis with or without thrombophlebitis, swollen arms, blistering, bruising Lymphoedema Aneurysm Stenosis Steal syndrome, due to ischemic conditions (lack of blood circulation), characterized by pale visible arms, loss of pulse at the tip of the shunt, tissue necrosis (death), Heart failure Management of these complications if done immediately can restore the function of the AV shunt. However, in most cases, access to the AV shunt must be closed and surgical procedures performed to improve circulation in the arm.
Thus the explanation from me, may be useful.
