Causes Of Palpitations Accompanied By Shortness Of Breath In The Elderly?
Good evening doctor, I want to ask my mother her heart is pounding accompanied by shortness of breath and this condition lasts for more than two months without pause, has taken medication for stomach acid from the doctor and there is only a change in his shortness of breath which is improving but for his heart is still pounding tight, is this a symptom of heart disease or just very severe stomach acid, please explain, thank you.
Hello Siskha, thank you for the question.
Actually it would be better if you include information whether in these two months the symptoms occur every day. Are these symptoms accompanied by symptoms other than shortness of breath, such as fainting, cold sweat, chest pain, nausea, vomiting.
Palpitations, or in medical terms called palpitations, are conditions in which the heartbeat which is normally not realized by humans, becomes realized. Many things can trigger heart palpitations. Some examples of conditions outside of a heart condition that cause palpitations are:
increased thyroid hormone
psychological stress (anxiety or panic)
Heart palpitations caused by disorders of the heart, for example in conditions of heart rhythm abnormalities or heart failure. However, the diagnosis of heart abnormalities can only be erect if it has been consulted with a doctor. The doctor will conduct a series of examinations such as a basic physical examination, ECG, echocardiography, and blood tests in the laboratory. For the time being, encourage your mother to get enough rest, drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration, avoid caffeine consumption, and to relieve stress by trying various methods of mediation.
Hopefully this answer helps in finding a solution. Regards.
