Causes Of Recurrent Malaria?
Good afternoon. I want to ask, when I was in NTT I had experienced malaria, and now I am in Java, how come I still suffer from malaria? In Java, there’s no such thing as Malaria … Thanks .
Malaria is a disease caused by the parasmodium parasite and spread by female Anopheles mosquitoes. A person is infected with malaria generally after visiting malaria endemic areas, one of which is in NTT. Symptoms of malaria include fever, nausea, vomiting, headache, cold sweat, muscle aches, diarrhea, anemia, bloody bowel movements, and seizures.
There are 5 types of Plasmodium parasites that often cause malaria, namely P falciparum, P vivax, P ovale, P malariae, and P knowlesi. What often happens in Indonesia is P falciparum and P vivax. P vivax and P ovale can stay in the body for years without causing any complaints, but at any time can be active again and cause symptoms of malaria, recurrence depends on the immune system and treatment given previously .
Do you experience symptoms of malaria again? Maybe what you are experiencing right now is a malaria relapse. I suggest that you see a doctor when experiencing symptoms similar to the symptoms of malaria so that further tests can be done to determine whether there is a relapse of malaria or there are other conditions.
Your doctor will probably take an history, physical examination, and blood test to confirm your condition. While further treatment will be given in accordance with the results of the examination. If malaria relapse is confirmed, the doctor can give anti-malaria drugs and medication to relieve symptoms.
Hope it helps you,
