Lack of liquid lubrication
Psychic influence
Menopause
Infection and stimulation of the vagina
Vaginismus
Irritation of the vagina for example due to pads, condoms, soap
Other medical conditions: endometriosis, pelvic inflammation, ovarian cysts, myoma, irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, malignancy

The wife's actions to see an obsgyn doctor are appropriate. Did the wife get medicine from the doctor? If there is no improvement from the wife's condition, the control wife should go back to the obsgyn doctor who took care of it beforehand so that an evaluation of the results of the treatment can be done. If needed the doctor can do additional tests with ultrasound, pap smears, and vaginal fluid tests if available to be more certain. Furthermore, doctors can provide maximum treatment for your wife.
