Thank you for asking at HealthReplies.com. Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis which can manifest inside the lungs or outside the lungs. TB will be suspected if the patient has symptoms of cough with phlegm for 3 weeks or more, cough with phlegm, fever, chest pain, easy night sweats, weight loss, and no appetite. Diagnosing TB is not easy to do. Usually, to diagnose TB, the doctor needs to ask some further questions about your complaint and then examine you. From this initial examination, the doctor will recommend further tests such as blood tests, Mantoux test, sputum examination, X-rays. X-rays show the possibility of TB with minimal lesions / abnormalities. It is possible that due to the minimal abnormalities in the lungs, the cough symptoms in sufferers do not appear. Until now, sputum examinations are more recommended to detect TB bacteria in sputum, but this is not always easy, especially if there is no sputum or the sufferer has difficulty expelling sputum. Usually the doctor will choose another alternative examination. However, if you have any doubts about your doctor's diagnosis, do not hesitate to consult another internal medicine specialist or pulmonologist for a second opinion. Because as mentioned above, the process of diagnosing TB is not easy. However, if the doctor is of the same opinion that you have tuberculosis, please undergo treatment properly according to the doctor's recommendation. In the meantime, if you have a fever, you can take paracetamol. This medication can also help relieve chest pain.
