For complete information about vaccination or immunization you can read here.
DPT (Tetanus Diphtheria) immunization is included in the basic immunization that must be given to children. This immunization aims to form antibodies against the bacteria that cause diphtheria, pertusia and tetanus.
Diphtheria is a bacterial disease that attacks the nose and throat. It is characterized by a gray membrane in the throat, which easily detaches and bleeds. The membranes contain toxins that can attack the nerves, heart and kidneys, causing death.
Pertussis or Whooping cough is a bacterial disease characterized by a strong cough, if left untreated the bacteria can spread causing pneumonia, brain damage, seizures and death.
Tetanus is a bacterial disease that causes severe muscle stiffness, it can cause shortness of breath and death due to stiffness of the respiratory muscles.
Because these three diseases can cause death, this vaccine is mandatory for children. Consists of 5 times the gift. Namely at the age of 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, 18 months and 5 years (before entering school).
If it is late to give the next vaccination, vaccination will continue, the distance between the delayed vaccination (for example the second one) and the next one (the third one) is still 1 month, the distance between the 3rd and 4th administration is 1 year. If it is late to start vaccination, then immediately start at any age with a one-month gap between the second and the third one month as well, and the distance between the 3rd and 4th administrations one year. If it is the 4th vaccination, before the age of 4 years, the 5 year old vaccination is still given, if it is given after 4 years then the 5th vaccination does not need to be given again.
Examples in the case:
1. The first vaccination is delayed so it is done at 3 months of age.
2. Second vaccination at 4 months of age.
3. The third vaccination at 5 months of age.
4. The fourth vaccination at 18 months of age
5. The fifth vaccination is given at 5 years of age.
Get medical help immediately if there are any danger signs after injection of this vaccine, such as:
1. Allergy signs appear such as a red rash on the skin that feels itchy, face and mouth swelling or shortness of breath.
2. The child has a fever of more than 40 degrees Celsius.
3. Child has seizures or decreased consciousness.
That's the information I can provide, hopefully it's useful.
