Comparison Of BPD And AC In Ultrasound Results?
I want to ask about my ultrasound results where the BPD is 7.98 CM (32W) while the AC is 24.46 CM (28W4D) is it normal. Thank you
Good morning, thanks for asking at HealthReplies.com. To predict gestational age, and also to determine whether the fetus is developing according to gestational age and detect abnormalities, ultrasound examination is often performed. In this ultrasound examination there are several aspects that are measured, including BPD and AC.
BPD (biparietal diameter) is the diameter or midline distance between the two sides of the fetal head. This measurement can usually only be taken after 13 weeks and increases from approximately 2.4 cm at 13 weeks and to 9.5 cm at 37-40 weeks. For ages 28-29 weeks, the average normal BPD is 7.2-7.4 cm, and for gestational ages 31-32 weeks, the average normal BPD is 7.9-8.2 cm.
Meanwhile, AC (abdominal circumference) measures the circumference of the fetus' abdomen. At 28-29 weeks, the AC ranges from 24-25 cm and at 31-32 weeks, the average normal AC is 27-28 cm. When combined with BPD and femoral bone length and head circumference in the fetus, the AC and BPD can estimate fetal weight.
In your case, there is indeed a difference in age estimates, where through BPD, your fetus should be 32 weeks old, but according to AC calculations, your fetus is only 28 weeks old. Our advice is that you discuss this difference with your doctor, as there are many factors to consider to determine whether this is normal or not. Your doctor will usually determine whether the amniotic fluid level is too much, too little, or normal and so on. Hope your pregnancy and delivery goes well.
So, hopefully useful.
