Consumption Of Birth Control Pills While Pregnant, Is It Dangerous?
Yes, what will happen if you continue to take birth control pills without realizing that you are 3 weeks pregnant… what will happen to the fetus?? Is it dangerous??
Hi Rahman. In general, the use of hormonal contraception, in this case the birth control pill, works to prevent pregnancy by regulating hormone levels to prevent the release of an egg to be fertilized. However, even so, there can be failure to prevent pregnancy, especially if you miss taking birth control pills, vomit after taking birth control pills, or use certain medications. As a result of this failure, pregnancy can occur, and if you find out you are pregnant and are taking birth control pills, stop immediately. Although it is said there is a risk of low birth weight, or congenital abnormalities that can occur, however, this is not found in the clinical findings. In addition, there is no evidence that using hormonal contraception during pregnancy causes miscarriage. However, it was found that there was a risk of ectopic pregnancy, especially in the use of birth control pills containing 1 hormone.
Once you find out you are pregnant, stop using contraception immediately. Consult your obstetrician for more information. Ultrasound examination can help especially in the first trimester to assess the possibility of ectopic pregnancy, congenital abnormalities and confirm pregnancy. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, avoid smoking and alcohol, limit strenuous physical activity, and get enough rest. Hopefully helpful, and thank you. Regards, Dr Alyssa
