Consumption Of Omega 3 At The Age Of 18 Years?
I am 18 years old. I want to ask. Omega 3 which contains DHA is it really possible to make smart?
Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Basically omega 3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) do have many roles in the brain. Omega 3 is very instrumental in the development of the baby's brain both while still in the womb or after birth (while still in the period of brain development) and also maintain normal brain work in adults. Current research shows that pregnant women who consume omega 3 during their pregnancy have better intelligence at their early childhood.
In adults and older people, omega 3 is known to help:
improve memory in people who experience mild memory disorders (for example due to aging or due to mild cognitive impairment)
helps improve mood and cope with depressive symptoms
helps maintain a healthy heart and blood vessels
Unfortunately in healthy people (no memory impairment or cognitive impairment whatsoever), consumption of omega 3 does not have any effect on brain function and does not make people who consume it more intelligent too.
You may of course still take omega 3 supplements if you want. There are no losses or side effects that occur from the consumption of omega 3 and omega 3 supplements still have other benefits for your body. But you should not be too hopeful that consumption of omega 3 can increase intelligence because the results of research do not support this. If you have certain diseases or take certain medications regularly, make sure you consult with your doctor before taking this supplement. If you want to undergo a medical procedure / operation, you also need to stop taking this supplement for a while.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
