Cook Using A Frying Pan Affected By Mice?
Last night, this morning I saw rats soaking in water in a pan and already from last night. Then, the same as me, I just flushed the water without washing it with soap. Then use it to cook fried rice. Is it safe or dangerous?
Hello, thank you for the question to HealthReplies.com
Basically rats (which are not domestic mice) have the potential to carry a variety of harmful microorganisms in their bodies. These microorganisms can be brought about by direct contact with the body from the soil, their own feces, other animal feces, or other impurities, it can also be due to diseases that they carry in their bodies (for example leptospirosis which can be transmitted through the urine they secrete). Therefore, if indeed the cooking utensils that you use come in contact with mice (or cockroaches, or other dirty animals), the cookware should be immediately washed with soap and water until completely clean.
Cooking fried rice using a frying pan that is only washed with water only after being exposed to mice is indeed at risk of causing illness to you and your family as well. Nevertheless, you and your family need not worry too much first. Basically, most microorganisms will die by heating high temperatures (when cooking fried rice). Even if there are microorganisms that don't die, your body (especially your digestive tract) actually has a defense mechanism against infection. Most microorganisms that enter with food will die by stomach acid and digestive enzymes in the digestive tract. Microorganisms that escape the body's defense mechanisms that might cause disease. Therefore the possibility of you and your family being sick is actually quite small. However, keep in mind whether there are certain symptoms that you and your family feel, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, or other gastrointestinal disorders. If you experience these symptoms, immediately consult a doctor.
Henceforth, always make sure you wash with soap all cooking utensils that have clearly been exposed to animals, or wash back cooking utensils that have not been used for a long time.
So much information from me, hopefully enough answer
