good morning doc I Rahmy want to ask, it’s been 2 days the same day I have a cough, fever but not until 38c Is that one of the symptoms of corona or just a common cold? please explain the doc thank you
Hello Rahmy Suciamy,
SARS-CoV-2 is the latest corona virus strain that can cause a disease in humans called Covid-19 (corona virus disease). Viruses can be transmitted in 2 ways:
Inhalation (inhalation of the respiratory tract) droplets containing viruses from coughing and sneezing in patients with Covid-19.
Hands after touching objects contaminated by droplet + SARS-CoV-2 virus then touches the mucosa of the nose, mouth, eyes
From medical studies, the incubation period of this virus has a limit of 14 days, which means that from the start the virus enters the body symptoms will appear within these 14 days (most patients appear on days 5-6). Covid-19 has symptoms that are difficult to distinguish from other infectious diseases, including upper respiratory infections due to other viruses such as influenza viruses (flu), adenoviruses, parainfluenza, RSV, and so on.
The majority of patients who were positive for Covid-19 (nearly 90%) had symptoms of FEVER> 38 degrees Celsius. Besides other dominant symptoms are cough, sore throat, excessive fatigue, aches in muscles and joints, headaches, shortness of breath. A small percentage experience diarrhea, coughing up blood, red eyes, and skin rashes that accompany the main complaint of fever.
To determine if someone is sick with Covid-19, it is necessary to do a confirmation check using a respiratory swab sample (throat, etc.) then be examined by the RT-PCR method to detect the virus that causes Covid-19 in the body. This examination is not a screening examination, so it is aimed at those who have symptoms of FEVER and / or one of the respiratory symptoms AND within the last 14 days there is close contact with people with Covid-19 / suspected Covid-19 OR traveling to / domiciled in areas with local transmission of Covid -19 AND the symptoms cannot be explained by another diagnosis.
If there are any such signs, please contact the 119 ext 9 or 112 hotline or the Covid-19 hotline provided by the local government to determine the need for an inspection and how appropriate the Covid-19 inspection line is.
In the midst of an outbreak like this, there is no harm in thinking that everyone has the potential to be infected with Covid-19. Because it is caused by a virus, the nature of Covid-19's disease is self limiting disease, which is cured by the body's own immunity and there is no specific treatment. In patients with mild symptoms (especially healthy adult patients) the most important thing is to do INDEPENDENT ISOLATION (not going out of the house, physical distancing with other family members), doing the right cough ethic, implementing clean and healthy life behavior, diligently washing hands with running water and soap so as not to infect others, especially high-risk groups such as the elderly, patients with chronic / comorbidities, patients with immune disorders due to other diseases or immunosuppressant drugs. In this high-risk group, Covid-19 can quickly cause severe manifestations such as severe pneumonia, respiratory failure, systemic infections, organ damage, to death.
While staying at home, please read information and enrich your knowledge about Covid-19 through the official websites of WHO, CDC, or the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. Some articles from HealthReplies.com can also help you understand Covid-19, Covid-19 related terms, risk of transmission, and so on.
Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
