Cough Does Not Heal In Children Aged 4 Months?
Dook .. My son is 4 months old, almost 1 month his cough doesn’t heal until now … his voice is loud and giggling. Already go to the doctor about medicine. The medicine still remains. So I nebulize my child twice a day for 3 days … is it safe to nebulize my child multiple times ??
Hello Wati, Thank you for the question.
Chronic cough in babies can be caused by various health conditions such as bronchitis, bronchiolitis, stomach acid reflux, asthma, and others. The nebulizer device is a therapy for the respiratory tract that will release steam. In this therapy, certain drugs will be used which will be processed by the nebulizer into aerosol which then acts on the respiratory tract when the sufferer inhales. The drugs given can help thin phlegm, dilate the airways, or relieve inflammation of the respiratory tract. The administration of drugs in the nebulizer device is adjusted to the patient's age and condition. Not all sufferers who experience coughing or shortness of breath will receive this therapy. Thus, if the doctor has examined your child and recommends this, then you don't need to worry. However, if this complaint does not improve after undergoing treatment and therapy with a nebulizer, please bring your child back to see your pediatrician.
Please keep monitoring your child's general condition. Keep breastfeeding your child, keep your child's drink intake. If your child looks short of breath accompanied by pallor and high fever, please immediately take your child to seek the nearest medical help.
