Cough With Phlegm With Itching In The Throat?
My doctor has been coughing for 5 days and it still hasn’t healed, my voice is hoarse, at night the cough is hard + my throat is itchy, and recently I have a runny nose. Oh yeah I’ve had sinusitis so do I have sinusitis or just the common cold
Hi Aldion, thanks for the question.
Coughing up phlegm with an itchy throat, runny nose, and hoarseness can be caused by the following conditions:
Influenza or flu, the symptoms are caused by a virus that attacks the respiratory system. Flu symptoms will get worse for about 2-4 days before finally getting better
Sore throat or pharyngitis. The presence of infection by bacteria / virus causes inflammation of the throat
Acute bronchitis, which is inflammation and infection of the bronchial tubes (respiratory tract)
Laryngitis or inflammation of the vocal cords box in the throat (larynx) which causes the voice to become hoarse
Other acute respiratory infections
Sinusitis is inflammation of the lining of the cavity around the nose. In your current case, there is no nasal congestion, headache, or facial pain. This indicates that it is unlikely that the symptoms experienced are caused by sinusitis. However, the presence of cold symptoms in you does not rule out the possibility of causing sinusitis that has been experienced to recur.
If the symptoms do not subside, you should consult a doctor for further treatment. Your doctor will determine the exact cause of your symptoms and provide appropriate therapy. Some tips that might help, namely;
Drink more water and warm drinks
Blow your nose often, but don't blow too hard
Inhale warm steam to clear the airways
Avoid oily and spicy food for a while
Cough and cold relievers, which work as expectorants or mucolytics (phlegm thinners) and over-the-counter antihistamines can be tried to temporarily relieve symptoms
May be useful.
