CT Scan Results?
Slmt mlm Doctor. Doctor, can you please help me to explain the following CT neck scan results? Is there no tumor in my parotid? Is it just inflammation or what, Doctor? Final Report. Findings: Parotid gland: Right is greater than left, parenchyma appears heterogeneous. Impression: Enlargement accompanied by heterogeneity of the right parotid gland parenchyma can match the description of right parotitis. Thus the results of the CT scan, Doctor. Thanks to attention u0026amp; doctor’s help.
Hello Lisa Schart,
The parotid gland is one of the largest salivary glands. Parotid glands are on both sides of the face. There are many abnormalities that can cause swelling of the parotid gland, including:
Inflammation due to bacterial or viral infections (mumps)
Recurrent chronic parotitis
Parotid abnormalities can be diagnosed through a history of patient complaints, clinical symptoms, physical examination and investigations. Investigation CT-scan or MRI is useful for diagnosing abnormalities suspected of malignancy (cancer). CT-scan modalities can detect tumor lesions or suspected cancer of the parotid gland.
On CT scanning, hard and dense tissue such as bone will be white, while non-dense tissue will be blacker. On the results of the CT scan above found the size of the right parotid gland larger than the left. The parotid gland tissue appears heterogeneous (has different white-black intensities), normal parotid tissue should look homogeneous. The picture of heterogeneity in your parotid tissue is mentioned according to the description of parotitis, which is inflammation of the parotid gland.
If a tumor is found, it will usually be written on the results of a CT scan showing the tumor lesion, its location, what size, and suspected as a picture of benign or malignant. Please consult with your doctor to get the appropriate treatment for the parotitis condition that you are experiencing. Thus the explanation from me, hopefully useful.
