Dangers Of Inserting Fingers Into Baby’s Mouth?
.. I want to ask.. just now my 10 month old child choked.. I don’t know if it’s food or what.. I panicked and reflexively reached into my child’s mouth.. what I want to ask is is it dangerous to reach into the baby’s mouth too deep.. what are the consequences from reaching into the baby’s own mouth..thank you
Hi Ms Junita,
Your child's age is a vulnerable phase for children to experience choking. This is caused by the curiosity of children who easily put objects into the mouth (oral phase), and the ability to swallow is not perfect.
If your baby is choking, you should put the baby on your lap (on your thighs in a sitting position) and gently pat your baby's back or known as the back blow technique.
Inserting a finger into your oral cavity is not recommended because it can actually push food or foreign objects that cause your baby to choke.
As a precaution, what you can do is increase supervision of your child and avoid placing dangerous objects or small objects that can enter your child's mouth.
I hope it's useful, ma'am
