Diet For Women Who Experience PCOS?
Hello doctor, I want to weigh what diet is suitable for teenagers with PCO?
Women with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) have multiple cysts in their ovaries due to excess production of a hormone called androgens. 50% of PCOS sufferers are obese. Besides obesity, symptoms such as hirsutism (excessive hair growth / hair), acne, and baldness are also found.
PCOS sufferers usually have high insulin levels in the body. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps cells convert blood sugar into energy. In PCOS sufferers, this happens because of insulin resistance, ie the person is unable to use insulin effectively. Insulin levels that are too high can cause the ovaries to produce more androgens, for example testosterone.
One of the causes of insulin resistance is the body mass index above average (overweight / obesity). Diets high in processed carbohydrates can cause insulin resistance which is certainly more difficult to lose weight.
A diet that is suitable for PCOS sufferers is actually a healthy diet that can be applied by everyone. Things to avoid in people with PCOS:
