Difficult BAB

Good afternoon dock, I want to ask. Can I take laxatives regularly every 3 days? The thing is I can’t defecate if I don’t take laxatives. Thank you

Hello Wulandari,
Thank you for the question.
Everyone has a different bowel pattern, but in general a normal bowel movement is about once a day or three times per week. You could suffer constipation or bowel movements if you do not pass smoothly in accordance with the frequency of your normal bowel movements. BAB is not smooth is greatly influenced by diet, exercise, and stress, so the thing that needs to be done to overcome it is to modify the lifestyle first.
The use of laxatives can be done to overcome constipation or defecation that is not smooth. However, these laxatives still have side effects, and are not recommended for long-term use. Laxatives can interfere with the absorption of nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in an imbalance of body fluids and electolytes that can cause heart rhythm disturbances, weakness, to seizures. In addition, if you use laxatives for weeks to months, this can result in a decreased ability of the intestine to contract and worsen constipation.
Therefore, you should also participate in modifying lifestyles, such as:
Eat foods rich in fiber.
Take probiotics.
Do not habit of delaying bowel movements if there is already stimulation to want bowel movements.
Drink 2-3 liters of water per day.
Regular exercise 3-5x per week.
Manage stress well.
Hopefully this information can help and hopefully get well soon.
Regards.
