Does Stress Trigger Stomach Acid?
, I think if I’m stressed, why do I feel nauseous and not fond of eating? How do you make it so you don’t feel sick? It seems like this is an influence with my mind. Do I have to consult a psychologist or what?
Dyspepsia syndrome is a collection of symptoms of discomfort in the upper abdomen (especially in the solar plexus). Dyspepsia can be a symptom of burning / burning in the pit of the stomach, a sensation of fast fullness, nausea, flatulence, excessive gas. Dyspepsia can be divided into two namely functional dyspepsia and organic dyspepsia. Organic dyspepsia can be caused by abnormalities in the stomach (eg gastritis, peptic ulcers), abnormalities in the hepatobiliary system (eg cholecystitis, hepatitis), gastrointestinal structural abnormalities, metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Functional dyspepsia usually has no apparent cause and there are no abnormalities in organ examination.
One that is suspected to trigger dyspepsia is a stress factor. Research on some patients who complain of dyspepsia shows the existence of disorders such as anxiety and depression in most patients. In another study found groups of people who have higher stress levels have a greater risk for experiencing dyspepsia. Management of dyspepsia includes administration of drugs, changes in patterns and types of food, and good stress management. The drugs used can be in the form of proton pump inhibitors, prokinetics, antidepressants. Encourage patients to eat more often but in smaller portions, try to consistency of more soggy foods, avoid foods that are too spicy and sour, reduce coffee consumption, not smoking. Do not use pain relievers (especially NSAIDs) carelessly, do not lie down immediately after eating, and attempt to manage stress well. Physical examination by a doctor and supporting examination needs to be done to ensure there are no abnormalities in the organs, before deciding that dyspepsia that you experience only because of stress. If after using drugs for dyspepsia the symptoms do not diminish and greatly disrupt your daily activities and work, you can consult a mental health specialist for proper stress management.
