, I want to ask my son, a green discharge came out of his right ear, the doctor said it was because he was allergic to colds, then he was given H2 O2 and Erla chloramphenicol, is that okay for 3 months and a half babies? And do you have to go to the ENT doctor? Then for the use of the h2 o2, after the drops, do you clean it or just let it sit? Thanks

Hello, good evening Octa.

The human ear is divided into three parts, namely the outer, middle, and inner ear. Between the outer ear and the middle ear is bounded by a thin layer, the tympanic membrane, or often called the eardrum. The eardrum is normally intact, not perforated, so that normally fluid from the outside cannot enter the inner ear, and vice versa. If there is discharge from the inside of the ear, there is concern that the eardrum is perforated so that fluid from the middle ear can come out. However, other conditions can also cause discharge from the ear, such as an external ear infection in the suppuration stage, which is active inflammation so that inflammatory cells dilate blood vessels in the outer ear and discharge fluid.

Between the respiratory tract and the ear, there is a channel called the eustachian tube. In children, especially infants, the eustachian tube is gentler and wider than the adult eustachian tube, so common colds often progress to middle ear infections (otitis media), if the inflammatory fluid continues to be produced, there will be fluid urges. from the middle ear so that the thin eardrum becomes torn, resulting in the discharge of infectious fluid from the middle ear to the outer ear (perforated stage acute otitis media). Generally in children, after the eardrum is torn, it will naturally repair itself and the hole will close again. However, if the discharge is recurrent or intermittent for more than 6 weeks, then this condition has become chronic (chronic suppurative otitis media) and needs to be examined by an ENT specialist.

For the treatment of discharge from the ear can use hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) 3% liquid. Hydrogen peroxide is used to clean dirt in the ear. How to use it is to put a drop into the ear, let it sit for a while, then remove it (by tilting the head back in the opposite direction from when the drops were given), you can use a clean and thin cloth to collect the remaining fluid around the child's ear. Chloramphenicol is one type of antibiotic that is safe for use in infants in the form of ear ointment or ear drops, but usually in more severe cases, oral antibiotics (drinking drugs) are also needed.

I hope you answer yes ma'am.
