Wa alaikumsalam, thank you for asking at HealthReplies.com. Complaints that you experience, with the presence of excessive anxiety, fear of death, sleep disturbance, to not dare to leave the house without the company of others, is indeed a complaint that represents the characteristics of mental or mental illness. Among the possible conditions are:

Panic attack
Social phobia
Agoraphobia
Depression
General anxiety disorder

And maybe other causes also depend on the results of the examination. Your friend is right that if there is a suspicion of mental problems like this, the most competent doctor is a psychiatrist. You do not need to be ashamed because this condition can actually be experienced by everyone, not because you are mentally weak, your past is bad or so forth. Especially with this condition that has been going on for 3 years, this is the time for you to take action and not have to be embarrassed or postpone again for any reason, because your peace of heart is far more important. Your psychiatrist will later focus on interviews and history exploration, and you may also do several types of tests before deciding on the best possible diagnosis and treatment for you. Can be a drug, and can also be a therapy.

In the meantime, try to manage your anxiety, introspection and understand what caused all this to happen first, then convey it to your psychiatrist later. Also convey other things that might disturb your mind, regardless of whether you feel it's important or not. So, hopefully answering your question.
