Explanation Of Sputum Laboratory Test Results?
good afternoon. r nI want to ask. I’ve had sputum lab tests. From my test results it says Mtb detected very High, Rif recistence not detected what does that mean?
Hello Nissah, thank you for the question for HealthReplies.com
Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by infection with the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A definite diagnosis for pulmonary TB disease is to find the TB germs in the lungs, this is usually done by examining sputum.
From your sputum examination, it was found that the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) was very high (MTB detected very high). Rif resistance is a test of bacterial resistance to Rifampicin drugs (Rifampicin is one of the drugs used in the treatment of TB). Rif resistance not detected means that the bacteria that infect you are not resistant to the antibiotic Rifampicin and your doctor can give Rifampicin as a drug for treating your tuberculosis disease.
Because of these results you are positive for pulmonary tuberculosis, you should immediately bring these results back to the doctor who asks for further treatment. Therapy for pulmonary tuberculosis will be given for 6 months or more (depending on response to therapy). You must undergo tuberculosis therapy regularly until it is complete so that there is no relapse or recurrence of the infection and so there is no resistance to tuberculosis bacteria to the drugs given. If resistance occurs then treatment should be continued to advanced treatment which is expensive and has more side effects.
In the meantime, make sure you always cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough to prevent transmission. It is better to avoid close contact with infants, toddlers, children, pregnant women, the elderly, or people who have a weak immune system because these groups are vulnerable to contracting tuberculosis. Always open the windows and doors of your house so that sunlight can enter the house and air circulation can run properly. This can prevent the bacteria from spreading to the people in your home environment.
So much information from me, hopefully it will be enough to answer
