Explanation Of The Widal Lab Test Results?
I am still a high school student, I don’t understand the purpose of the Typus O Paraty AOparaty BO paraty CO CH test for your help Thank you
Hello Shilvira Anelia, thank you for asking with HealthReplies.com.
Typhus or typhoid fever is an infectious disease by the bacteria Salmonella typhi, which generally occurs due to consuming food or drinks that have been contaminated with these germs.
One way to help diagnose typhoid fever is by widal examination. Widal examination is a serological examination to detect antibodies against Salmonella bacteria. There are several types of salmonella bacteria, namely Salmonella typhi, Salmonellaparatyphi A, Salmonella paratyphi B, and Salmonella paratyphi C
The part of bacteria that is recognized by the body (also called antigen) that can be used as a reference, namely antigenO or somatic which is located in the outer layer of the body of germs and also antigens that are found in the flagella of germs. So that widal examination can be useful to detect whether we are infected with Salmonella typhi or Salmonella paratyphi.
However, widal examination is not very accurate to determine the recent infection from salmonella germs because these germs are endemic in Indonesia. Positive results can also indicate that we have been infected before and the body already has antibodies against these germs from infections that have occurred before. So it is advisable to do it twice and be said to be positive if there is an increase in the second examination at least 4x times the first examination with an interval of 5-7 days from the first examination.
Hopefully this information can be useful for you. Thank you
